The Eight Ashtavinayak Temples and Their Stories:

Moreshwar Temple (Morgaon)
This is the first and most important temple, where the journey begins and ends. The idol of Ganesha here has a serpent over its head.
Story: Lord Ganesha took the form of Mayureshwar (riding a peacock) to defeat the demon Sindhu, restoring peace and balance. -
Siddhivinayak Temple (Siddhatek)
Located by the Bhima River, this temple is known for fulfilling wishes.
Story: Lord Vishnu worshipped Ganesha here before defeating two demons, Madhu and Kaitabha. Pleased with his devotion, Ganesha blessed Vishnu with strength and wisdom. -
Ballaleshwar Temple (Pali)
This temple is unique because Ganesha is worshipped as Ballaleshwar, named after a devoted child named Ballal.
Story: Ballal’s father punished him for worshipping Ganesha excessively. Impressed by Ballal’s devotion, Ganesha appeared and promised to stay at Pali forever as Ballaleshwar. -
Varadvinayak Temple (Mahad)
This temple is known for granting boons and fulfilling desires.
Story: A prince named Rukmangada was saved from a curse by Lord Ganesha, who blessed him with prosperity and happiness. -
Chintamani Temple (Theur)
A temple that symbolizes wisdom and peace, it is believed to remove worries (Chinta).
Story: Sage Kapila had a wish-fulfilling gem (Chintamani), which was stolen by a prince. Ganesha retrieved the gem and decided to stay at Theur as Chintamani Vinayak. -
Girijatmaj Temple (Lenyadri)
This temple is located in a cave on a hill, connected to Goddess Parvati’s devotion.
Story: Parvati meditated here to have Ganesha as her son. Pleased with her devotion, Ganesha was born as Girijatmaj (Son of Girija/Parvati) at this very place. -
Vighnahar Temple (Ozar)
Dedicated to the remover of obstacles, Vighnahar Ganesha is a powerful form.
Story: The demon Vighnasura was creating chaos, and sages prayed to Ganesha for help. Ganesha defeated the demon, who then surrendered and requested to be remembered forever as a symbol of overcoming obstacles. -
Mahaganapati Temple (Ranjangaon)
This temple houses a grand and powerful form of Ganesha.
Story: Before fighting the demon Tripurasura, Lord Shiva prayed to Mahaganapati here. With Ganesha’s blessings, Shiva defeated the demon and restored peace.
